I love interiors. More than life itself quite frankly. The menagerie of home ware items stashed away in any spare space possible in our new house speaks for itself – but that’s another story all of its own!
Home ware tangent aside, while I live in a small one bed flat I have to make do with a tiny corner of the living room in which to perch. So when we first moved in here, my old, rather monstrous-sized desk had to go and in moved a shiny new teenie-weenie alternative – the Ikea Vittsjö Laptop Table. It really does only fit your laptop and a few other desk essentials, but being the true hoarder I am, the whole minimalism thing really helps me keep to the basics and calm on the clutter collection. I have no choice but to be more streamlined with what I choose to have residing in my work space, so organisation is key! The desk and chair combo was inspired by Anna of ViviannaDoesMakeup – I love her style and when I saw them together on her channel I knew I had fallen in sweet furniture love. Sad but true. The chair (Ikea Nils if you were wondering) was an eye-watering £65. But the desk was only £30 so that justifies it, right?
As I work full-time, having a zen-like space I can retreat to in the evenings is essential for me, so my little blogging station is kept clutter-free. I can’t concentrate when things are messy, so a tidy working environment is a necessity. As tempting as it is to work from my bed/sofa/garden when it’s sunny, my desk is my little haven.
A few magazines prop up my beautiful gold-leaf vase complete with false peonies. I’ve never been able to keep real plants alive for very long so this is the perfect solution for adding a floral touch to my work space without the maintenance. I hunted far and wide for some fake flowers that still looked real, and these Wilkinson ones were perfect, especially as they were only £1 each!
I usually have a candle or two burning. My current pair were both freebies from LFW shows last year so I don’t know if they’re available to buy but they smell delish! Decoration-wise there’s also my adorable pineapple-shaped glass jar from H&M Home which doubles up as a post-its holder – the stationery geek in me just can’t resist. A cute Ikea (shock!) pot houses more stationery essentials, plus the little shelf underneath is piled with countless notebooks full of ideas, random notes and a hella load of lists. I’m a massive fan of a good to-do list. It helps me stay organised and motivated to get things done, and genuinely gives me the warm fuzzies when I tick something off.
I like to keep a hand cream on my desk too, my current fave being Laura Ashley’s Citrus Blossom & Nectarine which smells incredible! Plus a handful of whichever products I’m reviewing for my next beauty post. This week it’s my favourite blush polishes, so make sure you check back for that one if you’re as much of a polish-junkie as I am.
Finally, the newest addition to my desk is another H&M Home purchase and sits underneath the mini shelf. It’s the chicest little copper metal storage basket you ever did see, and it’s where I place all my “to do” items to remind me that they need, well, doing.
So there’s a peek into my current blogging station. What essentials do you keep on your desk?
