O’Sullivan’s Blow Dry

18th September 2016 by Chloé

Everyone loves a good blow dry, right? I for one will do pretty much anything to avoid the mammoth task that is washing a drying my own problematic-to-say-the-least hair! So when O’Sullivan’s reached out to me with the offer of taking that barnet burden from me, I jumped at the chance.

Tucked away in the depths of the Shard Arcade, O’Sullivan’s is hands down one of the friendliest salon environments my hair and I have ever visited. I felt at ease from the get-go, and even though I was only getting a blow dry, I know from experience that walking into a new salon to get a cut or colour can be a pretty nerve-wracking experience.

Speaking of which, they’re one of the first in the UK to launch Olaplex as a new in-salon service, which is a treatment that helps rebuild the bonds within the hair that can break during chemical processes like colouring or heated styling tools. The science behind it’s pretty clever and definitely one to look into if your hair’s feeling frazzled.

Back to the blow dry… As you can see, tres relaxed getting my hair washed and conditioned using the salon’s signature Kérastase products. After being lulled into a state of utter chill, the stylist used a Parlux hairdryer to turn my lacklustre locks into a bouncy blow out, and then tonged over the top for some added volume with the Remington Silk curling wand.

I always feel like I can’t recreate a salon-style blow dry at home, but with the tips the lovely staff at O’Sullivan’s gave me, I’m at least in with a shot:

  1. Always prep the hair with the right products for volumisation and frizz reduction. O’Sullivan’s use all Kérastase and L’Oréal products to calm the halo of frizz (I have a lot of it!) whilst enhancing volume.
  2. When drying, use a round bristle brush to lift the hair upwards and outwards from the roots as you run the hairdryer through.
  3. Section off the hair before starting and use the hairdryer on small segments at a time to create a look that lasts.

And that, boys and girls, is the story of a good blow dry. Thank you O’Sullivan’s for giving me the hair of dreams for date night and beyond…
